The summer has come and gone here in Southern Ohio.  We now find ourselves in the midst of a beautiful autumn that reminds us of all the scenic moments in a Lexington autumn on campus.

We had an eventful summer that began with a wonderful volunteer event in June and ended with the send off of four students from our region.  The volunteer  event was an amazing day that brought W&L folks of all stages of life together.  Working together we put a new coat of paint on a home and a massive smile on the face of a grandmother who truly appreciated our efforts.  All should be proud of our accomplishments as we represented the legacy, tradition, and honor of W&L very well once again.

In august we had an event at the home of the Lafkas’ in Hyde Park which was exceptionally well attended by the current students.  The event was focused on the alumni that had been away from Lexington VA for 10 years or less, current students, and our honored guest the incoming students of the class of 2015.  many thanks to all who took the time to help welcome the new students into our tight-knit family. We are excited to welcome our new students into the W&L community!!

Paint the Town 2011 – June 11^th 2011

On Saturday, June 11, 2011, Give Back Cincinnati will be hosting the tenth annual Paint the Town Project, providing an exterior rejuvenation of low-income owner-occupied homes through a fresh coat of paint.  This year Give Back Cincinnati is going to the communities of Dayton and Bellevue, Kentucky. Through the help of hundreds of volunteers, at the end of this single-day event, 39 homeowners will be able to once again look proudly upon their home.

As part of this effort, the Southern Ohio Washington & Lee Alumni will be sponsoring a house.  We will be building a team of about 30 volunteers to help paint the W&L home.  So RSVP today!  We are looking to confirm as much of our team as possible by May 14, 2011.

Now that the Reds have turned on the lights in Great American Ball Park we all know that this winter is soon to be over. The local chapter has much planned for this upcoming season which will include a few get togethers and a great volunteer opportunity on June 11th where we can make big difference as an alumni chapter.

We had a wonderful send off event for the Class of 2014.  Many thanks to all the alumni who stopped in to welcome the news students into our W&L family.  Each of the new students appeared eager and excited to get to Lexington and each alumnus had a tinge of jealousy to think about heading to Lexington for the year.
